I am Carol van Beusekom. I am an Abbeyview lass, brought up in Dunfermline in Fife. By day I am an in-house Legal Counsel for a financial services company, Axcess Europe but at every opportunity I throw caution to the wind, and go out to play in my go-kart to blow the cobwebs away!
Whilst Rotax Max was introduced to karting in 1998, I wasn’t introduced to karting by a friend until 15 years later in 2013. After many test runs at Raceland and Cambuslang Karting, I was ‘let loose’ on the track at Larkhall (West of Scotland Karting Club) for my very first real karting experience where my first lap came in at 44 seconds – only 6 seconds off the fastest recorded lap. I was utterly hooked from the moment I sat in the kart and I knew then I had to buy my own kart.
With my novice plates still on, I entered the Scottish ‘S’ Plate competition at Larkhall and scooped the Jimmy Veitch trophy – I was pretty pleased. Since then, I have competed in the Larkhall championship, the Northern Karting Federation championship and the Cumbria Kart Racing Club championship where I finished third and top lady in my first year. In 2014 I also won the paired 100 mile dash at the East of Scotland Kart Club at Crail and have been lucky enough to compete in the Superone Championship and the Dubai 0 Plate championship which was hot. Very hot!
Keep your eyes peeled for more updates coming from me and my trusty Kosmic 501 kart in our blog coming soon!
